i work in a boating store and i was given this 2004 9.9hp tohatsu 4stroke motor to try and run...
a customer brought it back, said it "wasn't running right" thats all i know, i was told to see whats wrong with it

i got it home finally got it started, does NOT want to stay running unless the choke is full open, even then it runs VERY rough and it's hard to keep running i have to keep gassing it.. i checked both plugs they both fire and it's getting gas. it likes to jump around the rpm's alot it wont run at a steady speed for long

again it's runs horribly rough adn it's hard to keep runing.. also the water coming out of hte motor is extremely hot, hotter than normal. any ideas??

thanks, chris

Is there anyway to prevent the jets from
fouling?

Run the gas out of the engine, at an idle, when you are done using it for the day....

You won't have a problem leaving the fuel in the carb for a few days or even weeks. If you store it longer than that, run the fuel out. Also, carb jets don't "foul", they clog. DJ is right, they're small and the tiniest speck will lodge in there cause lots of heartache. I would just inspect/clean the crap out of the jets and go from there
