I recently changed my impeller, and I ended up putting the foot on off about 4 times trying to get this problem resolved. somehow I have managed to screw up the shifting of the lower foot. it will go into reverse but it doesn't lock in so when I give it gas in the water or even with my heel on the prop ( don't try this at home kids ) it makes a clunk clunk clunk clunk noise. the linkage by the powerhead seems to be fine neutral is aligned with the neutral indentation reverse is all the way towards the rear or close and drive comes back towards the bow. so I am assuming that it was when I was adjusting the spindle gear on the foot to get the foot to go back in is where I ran into this issue. I suppose my question is either a. what the hell is going on? or b. does anyone know the correct position for the spline gear coming out of the foot for a neutral install of the foot? I have done a lot of reading and I understand that there is more than one neutral. help me out please.

Re: 2004 150 EFI reverse issue.

From the manual, prior to fitting LU:

Shift gear housing into forward gear and place guide block anchor pin into forward
gear position.

Do you have the service manual, 90-883728? If not, drop me a PM with an email address and engine s/n and I will forward a copy.
