Anyone have any experience with these? I am looking at an Alumacraft 1860 tunnel. They offer all three with this package....of course the more HP the higher the price. They say the 60 will push it in the low 30s, 70 in mid 30s and 90 in high 30s. With a load the 90 will get a better hole shot. The boat is a MV...18' with 60 bottom.
Also, it comes with a 12g fuel tank...any concerns? A 60hp fourstroke is available too.

Thanks,
Wily

Hi,
Also Yamaha has (new for 2003) a 75 hp 4-stroke and a 90 hp 4-stroke as You can read at Yamaha homepage. I do not have any Yamaha outboard (I have a Suzuki) but I have read some very favorable reviews on the 60 Hp 4-stroke (F60). I have not seen any reviews on the new F75 and F90 yet (but it seems to be the old F80/F100 but modified). Depending on how many persons/load you will have in the boat it for sure is better with a larger engine if high load since you do not need to use so high rpm then when cruise and noise will be lower also.
/Bo

I'd go with the 60 hp 4-stroke.

It's only 16 lbs heavier than the 2-stroke 60 and 70, and 17 lbs lighter than the 90. Plus it's a 4 banger instead of a 3 banger and it has a bigger alternator. Fresh water flush. You can prop it for a load. IMO, it would be more enjoyable to own. 12 gallons of fuel isn't much with the other 2-strokes optioned. I would guess you will be able to go twice as far with the F60.

If I had to choose one of the 2-stroke options, it would be the 70. 33 lbs lighter than the 90 and basically same engine as the 60 but 10 more. Of course the 90 would have the most go.

Good luck and congrats if you decide to buy. :D

lilwily,
I just bought a 2002 70hp Yamaha 2-stroke and I really like it. It replaced a 1985 75hp mercury and it runs circles around the old 75. I have a 15 ½’ bass boat and it pushes it in the low to mid 40’s.
