I purchased a used 2003 130 two stroke outboard three seasons ago that usually runs as good as can be expected with the only problem that occasionally it will start then stalls within 10-20 seconds and it won't restart.
Last time I took the boat into the boatyard and they jumped on it right away since I had it winterized by them which was two days after I experienced the problem. I must add that I replaced the 60 gal below deck fuel tank over the winter. Their report was they could find nothing wrong with the fuel tank install nor anything else and the outboard started and ran perfectly. They also did a sea trail.
In the meantime I used the boat about 7-10 times and each time my son was at the helm for the launch without problems. Today I launched by myself and I priemd the bulb and started the outboard and after approx. 15 secs I noticed that the engine was beginning to head toward a stall so I pressed the choke and it stalled within seconds and I could not get it to start again.
I pulled the fuel line off at the the small fuel filter, squeezed the bulb and fuel flowed. Next I loosened the 12 mm drain plug on each carb and fuel came out. We dried the plugs and outboard still did not start. Plugs were wet but did not have a strong gas smell. We drove back to my house ,hooked up the muffs, engine started and ran perfectly so back to the ramp we went and launched. Fished for about three hours ran about 20 miles at approx. 4000 rpm, trolled, shut down engine a few times and each time it restarted like normal.
Im scratching my head on this one but I'm also thinking carb issue. Could it be a sticky needle in the carb and when I prime it instead of my son that I am squeezing the primer bulb harder?
