I am interested in purchasing a 2003 Chaparral Signature 240 with 136 hours on it. The seller and I went for a test ride and before the engine had fully warmed up it would cut out around 4000 - 4200 rpm. The problem seemed to go away after the engine had time to fully warm up.

The sellers mechanic says he has since replaced the distributor cap, rotor, plugs, and fuel filter.

He said there were a couple of years where Volvo used a rev limiter for cold temps and that this was most likely what we experienced. He went on to say that after the engine warms up to around 140-150 degrees, the rev limiter would no longer cause the cut out to occur. Does his explanation seem feasible?

I will be test driving it once more before purchasing, but I would very much appreciate some insight on this.

Thank you.
