I have a 2003 Tohatsu 40, the shift cable is popping loose inside the motor and not allowing me to shift correctly, theres a notch that the shift cable has that is supposed to "grab" on the stainless bracket inside the motor housing but it keeps happening, do I need genuine tohatsu cables? These are teleflex and are 3 years old now, this is the first year with problems. Thanks

Tohatsu does not offer control cables. Something is worn or missing.

Strange, it seems like a wierd setup to begin with, that stainless plate just sitting there and the shift cables supposed to catch it as it goes through. There doesnt seem to be anyway to lock them in.

Then you are missing a piece. When they are correctly installed you can't budge them. Your best bet is to run it by your local dealer and let them see what is wrong.
