2003 mercury xr6 max timing

Can anyone tell me what the max timing is for this outboard? I have already used dial indicator to set pointer. (.462) I recently bought this outboard and it looks like someone has adjusting on the screw due to the orange glue being gone.

If the heads arent shaved you should be able to run 25 degrees without the idle speed regulator hooked up. If the heads have had any shaving, drop a few degrees. The reconnect the idle speed control if you are into that sort of thing.

I like to disconnect the throttle at the carbs and then open up the throttle control full on while its idling on the muffs and then check the timing. Only runs up to 1600 RPM or so but the timing advances completely. Not quite textbook but the timing is spot on that way.

How do you unhook the the idle stabilizer the only thing I see is the two wires coming from down by where the throttle cable hooks up. it a little box with neutral on it. there are no other boxes I think its all inside the control mod.

I think its just a shift stabilizer

Yeah mine doesn't have the separate box for idle control. Thanks for the info I checked it the other day and it was 28. Just wanted to get the right number. thank you
