I had posted similar question regards my 2003 Mercury 115 four stroke. I have seen no response, please help. After having the shaft and powerhead removed in order to repair the oil pan, I now have a motor which destroys impellers about every 30 days. Can a powerhead be installed improperly to somehow apply too much or too little downward pressure on the impeller? The mechanic is telling me the boat should have had a 25" shaft motor not the current 20" and this is the issue. Triton insists the transom is 20", the mechanic insists it is 25", this is a 2003 Triton V186 Bay. The thing is, the boat/motor has worked flawlessly for 12 years, this only happened after having the oil pan repaired which required to removal of the shaft and the powerhead.

Maybe the mechanic is saying the water intake is not deep enough in the water? But, that wouldn't explain why it worked for 12 previous years. Also possible he botched the repair somehow?
