I have a 2003 mercury 60 hp fourstroke bigfoot, 60ELPTEFI, ser: 0T684002.
Recently the warning horn has been giving me warnings but i am having trouble deciphering what it is trying to warn me about. For example while im on plane just cruising it will beep once or three times in a row or four times in a row, sometimes separately sometimes all of these are all in a row. This seems to happen fairly random, as it can happen every 5 to 10 mins between alarms and sometimes i can go a half hr without an alarm. Also at WOT sometimes i receive a long beeeep for temp but my confusion from this is that the water pump and thermostat are new and have roughly only 10 hrs of use And its pumping great. When i stopped to feel the water coming out of the motor after the temp alarm it was just luke warm. The motor runs great and i have had no other problems with it.

I've got the 2001 and checked my manual and it's not really much help.

1 beep = normal startup test
6 beeps at startup or while driving = the may be a problem with an engine function. Have dealer check soon
3 beeps every 4 minutes = Engine problem has occurred. May run rough or stall. Have dealer check
Intermittet beep = Engine problem has occurred. Engine will not run, have dealer check.
Continuous beep = Overheat, low oil pressure, engine overspeed, battery voltage high or low, or coolant sensor failure.

Essentially they all come down to see the dealer.

Thank you for the help, I am puzzled because my motor runs fine and does not show any of the symtoms associated with each alarm, (for example 3 beeps every 4 min., may run rough or stall). It will beep 3 beeps near the 4 min range but still runs smooth and great.
I always do all my own work and was trying to avoid having to pay to get a diagnostic done but it looks like i may not have a choice.

An update for anyone who may experience problems similar to this in the future. I checked and cleaned every wire connection and grounds I could find on my engine as well as on my dash and guages, as well as on the battery too. Since then I have been fishing several times and so far the problem has not occurred , this leads me to beleive it was a bad connection or bad ground. Which one it was or where i will mever know but i am fairly confident that this has solved my warning alarm issue.
