Hi,
I have a 2003 Merc 200 2 stroke/carb that runs good. However, I had the fast beeping alarm all day today. I check the 2 stroke oil reservoir and it had about 1/4 left, that's why the low-oil alarm was beeping.
By the way, the 2 stroke oil tank in the bilge is full, but the oil is not going up into the reservoir on top of the carbs.
I recently bought the boat and I wonder of the former owner had that problem and did not mention it. Maybe he was just adding oil directly to the reservoir.
Can anybody give me advice on how to get the oil to the reservoir in the top? I took a picture of the hose that brings the oil from the tank to the reservoir and it seems like the brass fitting is missing a piece...maybe it should be connected to some kind of suction line. Im not sure how the oil gets up there...???
See attached picture.
I forgot to mention...when I run the engine with top reservoir the cap open, no oil is going into the reservoir. its not filling up.
thanks!
lou

either and/or both of these two fittings may be tha problem..

pt# 424254.. this is tha one you are pointing to..its a 4 PSI check valve.. it doesn't need anything attached to tha empty barb..

pt# 8781051.. its right under tha starter.. its a "one way" crankcase pressure check valve fitting.. you should not be able to blow throw it into tha block.. it puts pressure from crankcase on tha big tank in tha boat to force oil up to tha motor tank............

I think I got it.
#1- part# 424254 (from the picture) is just a 4 PSI valve and is not missing anything.

#2-pt# 8781051..thats the one I need to check to make sure is properly connected to the crankcase. Like you said, that one blows the oil (pressurizes the system) so the oil an go up to the reservoir. It might be hard to find that fitting (under the starter) but i will find it to make sure its properly connected. If it is connected then I will check the main oil tank to ensure there are no leaks and check to ensure he the pick up strainer (tube) is clean.

Please let me know if this sounds right. If I go to the main oil tank (in the bilge) and disconnect the hose that brings pressure from the crankcase (I saw on YouTube that its the one that seats lower of the two going into the main tank), I should be able to feel the pressure blowing from the crankcase (of course with the engine running). Right?
Thanks!!
Lou

Correct.----Crankcase compression is used to put pressure on the main oil tank.-----Perhaps there is an issue with the engine.-----Posting cylinder compression values may offer a clue.

I didn’t think there was anyone still brave enough to still have a 2stroke carb 2.0/2.5l with oil injection still operating. Jeez, I learned that lesson the hard way, in my youth. Never again on those engines, will I trust it.

The compression test was done last month and it bet 127-130 psi on all cylinders.
Also, the engine runs fast/strong. I will check for leaks in the system or obstructions in the pick up strainer.
Thanks!!

If it’s a normal carb 2.5l with oil injection…I’d defo be disconnecting the injection system and pre mix the fuel at 50-1. These things are famous for the injection system failing.

Got it. That would be the best way to fix it. But I would have to wait until the fuel tank is almost empty. The fuel gauge is not reliable.
Ar the same time, I could do a rough estimate based on the tank size and maybe add a little more (4:1) and let it smoke a little more than usual.

???----4:1 is quite a bit of oil.-----Won't be many skitters around if motor runs on that.------

I get you. But I’d defo have it in mind to do it ASAP, if you can. It’s only a matter of time.
I wouldn’t normally mention such a thing with any other motor and injection system…but those in particular are just ticking time bombs
