I was wondering what the holes on the lower unit of my engine are for? See attached photo. In the photo I placed a sticky note to identify what I'm talking about. I looked through all the manuals online and message boards I could find and the only reference I can find is that it may be a drain for residue gas and oil. The reason for my interest is that as I was getting my boat ready for its first use of the season, I noticed a sheen of oily material from this area. Is that normal? I have not started it.
