The boat i'm about to buy has this motor ,the owner has been flushing it with the hose attachement with the motor running. He says he has done this since he had it.I'm wondering if he has done any damage by continually overheating this motor. It seemed to run fine when i was on it but i think some problems might be looming, any thoughts appreciated.

Re: 2003 f225 yahama

On my 2003 Yamaha F115 (and probably on all Yamaha) that is equipped with flushing connector the engine must be shut off, not running, when using a garden house connected to the engine flushing connector.

Use muffs with dual water pick-up and plenty of water pressure if you want to run the engine on land.

I would change to a new impeller in your case to be sure impeller is not defect by running dry as he did.

If any damage to the engine is hard to say, depends for example how long he had been running the engine each time this way.

By the way it says clearly in the user manual "With the engine off, turn on the water tap and let the water flush through the cooling passages for about 15 min."

See chapter 4-33 (and chapter 4-5 how to use muffs).
