Re: 2003 BOM 175 looper- Water pressure and trim?
Teleflex has a water pressure gauge and the fittings and instructions needed to install it. Check your engine, it may already have the trim sender installed. Again, Teleflex has a number of trim gauge kits. It is a good idea to replace the water pump impeller when you add the water pressure gauge. You then take a ride and note idle, mid range, and wide open throttle water pressure readings. In the future, any deviation from those "new impeller" numbers indicates that its time to replace the impeller. The gauge of course is of little value unless you understand what it's telling you. Zero pressure indicates there is no water reaching the engine -- as may be the case if you sucked a plastic bag over the water intake. And most people do not understand that just because normal water pressure is indicated, that does not mean the engine is being properly cooled. A stuck thermostat or defective poppet valve, blown head gasket, etc are all overheat causes yet the gauge would show normal water pressure. All it tells you is the pump is or is not working.
