Is it just my motor or is it common for the low oil alarm to sound when it still has 2 litres in the tank? If I read the owners manual properly it is only a 3 litre tank.

Is you motor under warranty? If not, the oil tank sensor has two wires. One (usually Black is grounded to the engine block). The other wire (most likely Blue) runs back to the Lube Alert Module. The module operates by looking for circuits to ground ( with an actual low oil level the resistance in the sensor gets very low allowing the module to "see" the ground circuit.
If you pull open the Blue lead between the level sensor and the module with the engine at idle you will open the circuit. The alarm should stop provided it is the low level alarm you are getting.

There's a small problem with your diagnosis there Aqua. That engine does not have a lube alert module.

y not - If you are getting and alarm, check the sensor in the tank, the float and finally the temp sensor. There is no difference between the low oil and overheat alarms on this engine. I agree with Aqua that if the motor is in warranty, scoot it over to the dealer and have it fixed under warranty.

Good luck!

Are you sure it's the low-oil alarm? I have the same motor, and my shop manual says that an intermittent beep is the oil level, and the continuous beep is the overhead alarm. My alaram goes off when there's about a quart remaining, and has saved me a number of times.

Check your shop manual again. Prior to 1998, there will be a key up beep and two seperate alarms for low oil and overheat. After 1998, there will be no beep on key up and the alarm is the same (constant) for both.

Good luck!

yup it is under warrenty 4 months old with 60 hours on it. I mentioned it to the dealer I bought it off at the 20 hour service & he says is normal. I just suspect he is trying to cope out of the repair.

Thanks for the info folks.
