Great engine but since July it has not been starting and I've not be able to find the real cause. The fuel bulb is only flooding the carb. The fuel line bulb is not getting harder, thereby not building pressure. Fuel poors out of a small hole on the side of the carb and into the creek. When I disconnect the fuel line from the engine the engine starts up easily after unflooding itself and runs like new for three minutes. I've pressure tested the tank to motor fuel line and its good. I've purchased a new tank because I thought there was a small air leak in the old tank's internal fuel uptake hose.

it should be still under warranty, call that dealer of yours....

but..... spray pre-mixed fuel directly into the carb and try to start. if it starts, it may be the fuel pump. may be the carb got dirty and needs taken apart and rebuilt.

call that dealer

Sounds to me like a stuck or sunk float in the carb, FB. Could also be some debris preventing the float needle from sealing.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the advice. However, why does it run well and start on the first try when I've disconnected the fuel line for the motor?

because there is still fuel in the carb bowl. i had that same motor, along with two 5 hps nissan's. they are very light on fuel, that fuel left in the carb will last a good five mins at idle

When you disconnect the fuel line the carb can't get more gas to flood the engine, so it starts and runs 'til the gas in the bowl runs out.

When you reconnect the fuel line the float is not stopping the fuel and the engine floods.

Fix the carb. Ignore the "spray fuel" advice. It will only make the problem worse. There is nothing wrong with your fuel pump. You are getting too much, not too little.
