When I bought this motor for my restoration project, it was on a rack and there were only the seller and me to transfer it to my trailer. It weighs about 210 lbs. Anyway, I thought we would just wrestle it to the trailer upright, but the guy, who has a boat rental business, suggested another way. I figured he knew what he was talking about since he handled outboards all the time. What we ended up doing was putting a tire on the ground behind the trailer, laying the motor down so the head was on the tire, and flipping it over upside down so it laid on the trailer with the head at the back.

I've since read that you should never let an outboard go upside down because water from the lower unit might run back into the cylinders. It was dry when we transferred it and had been upright before I picked it up and should have been drained out by then. It was only upside down during the transfer for a second or two.

Should I have any worries about this? I haven't started it since getting it home, and I got it in June.

Thanks.
