Took boat out for basically 1st time this season.
Starts fine, idles fine, runs pretty good to EXCEPT.
Anything over 4200 or so RPM< the check engine light comes on (not over heat, not low or no oil either. Just check engine.
I back off and a minute later it goes away. Cruise around all day at 3800-4200 or so RPM, all is well and runs and sounds pretty good. Hit WOT, get revs up and bam, check engine warning again.
Back off, goes away.
It is def check engine buzzer and light. The low oil, no oil and over heat lights do not come on, only check engine.
Water pump was changed over winter and she pees strong (stronger then last year).
Marine did not do tuneup yet tis year so last years Racor (but did not see any water in it). Last years plugs (which I changed myself, but having them do full tuneup this year).
Since last year I:
1) raised engine 1 hole (2 second highest-which should be correct height).
2) added a brass fuel shutoff (with a 90 degree elbow) before the racor fuel filter (which is before my primer bulb). Used teflon tape in all the threads.
3) added a lowrance LMF 400 NMEA gauge with Ep-60 fuel flow sensor (which is mounted vertically as called for by lowrance).
I also lengthened my fuel hose a bit to have my primer bulb lay flat as it was vertical last year (and was lower then the racor fuel filter).
I am pretty sure the check engine light is fuel restriction right (nothing else)?
Could it be the shutoff valve with the add on 90 brass elbow (from Home Depot)?
Please help.
Thanks.
To add. I just noticed toda that as soon as I turned the key, the fuel gauge gets pinned to full. Turn it off, goes back to Empty.
Did not do this last season and always bounced around, never pinned to full.
there is no way the tank is full, and is A LOT closer to empty now then full.
