Doing a link and sync on this motor using the factory manual. Trying to determine the correct timing advance spec. The motor bracket tag has the following info:

Model Name: 150 TXRB
Approval Model Code: 6G4
Transom Height: X
Serial No: 1006880
There is also a letter "Q" in the lower right corner of the tag

According to the manual, the "6G4" code leads me to one of 2 model designations that have different timing advance specs:

1. "C150TR" - 19 deg BTDC
2. "S150TR" - 23 deg BTDC

There's nothing on the tag that shows either of those letter designations. How can I zero in on which one I have?

Thanks!

I'm aware of that, but the manual doesn't list specs for a "150TXRB". The "X" means it's a 25" leg, the "B" means it's a 2003. The "root" is a "150TR". Now you need to figure out WHICH 150TR it is.

When it come to engine identification in the genuine Yamaha Service Manual, the listings don't follow the common model name listed on the motor tag. The key to identification there is the "6G4" model code, which points to one of the two I listed above. If I knew the difference between the "C" vs "S" designation I could probably figure it out.

Hey, I just found it! It's enough to drive ya nuts...

Yamaha model designation 150AET = C150 (US and Canada) = Approval Model Code 6G4 = Pre-mixed lubrication system

Yamaha model designation 150FETO = S150 (US and Canada) = Approval Model Code 6G4 = Oil Injection. THAT'S MINE!

There are several other "150" models, but they have different Approval Model Codes... 6K0, 6J9, 6G5
