2003 140 nissan plus input?

I am looking at a bay boat with a 2003 140 nissan plus. I dont know much about these outboards. the motor only has 60 hrs. is this an easy to mantain motor? are they very reliable? I saw that the 140 and 120 are discontinued??? should this concern me??

They are as good as any other 2 stroke carb'd outboard. The 115/120/140 are in-line 4 cylinders and quite smooth. They tend to be thirsty, but good reliable outboards. Maintenance is pretty straight forward. Confirm that you have a Tohatsu or Nissan dealer near you if parts or service should be needed. They were discontinued to comply with the EPA regs. They have been replaced with a TLDI version 115. Parts are readily available.... Evaluate it like you would any used outboard (test run, yada, yada). If it is in good shape and you have a reliable dealer close by, I wouldn't be afraid to own one...

thanks for the input. if i get my money right and he dont sell it first i will probably jump on it. the owner said it gets 4mpg at 4600 rpm?? and it tops out at 50 on a 20 ft bay boat???. I will check for local dealers. thasnks for the advice.

I really can't speak to the mpg since there are too many variables that will effect your fuel consumption such as load, prop, balance, state of tune, hull design, etc. As previously stated, any Nissan/ Tohatsu dealer can service this motor- it is pretty straight forward= and parts are readily available. You also have some great resources here such as Elvin (Tohatsu Guru). When I have needed parts or information in the past, Elvin has been an incaluable resource.

Again, do your homework- and if it all checks out, this may be a really sweet package....

I have this motor on an 89 Skeeter and it tops out at 59mph. No problems as of yet and it has been in my possesion for 2 yrs.
