I've been told by the dealer of my 02 Yamaha 150HP
carb 2cycle that the manufacure did away with fuel line disconnects because of problems with burnt pistons. I would like to use disconnects to add portable tank to increase milage range. Any information would be appreciated.

Why cant you use a regular gas tank with a spout. There a heck of alot cheeper (4.00) at wal-mart, and you dont have to buy any additional parts. Just pour in the gas tank.

Thank you for the reply but I had two 12 gallon tanks in mind. I don't know of a pour spout for these tanks and they are a little hard to handle in a sea. Is there any truth to the burnt pistons from quick disconnects. thank you.

Most outboards this size don't use quick disconnect fittings because they go on boats with built-in tanks. If I recall, my older one's don't have them either.

Burnt pistons? Nah. The little outboards would be burning pistons too if air entering was the problem.

You could always just put a simple male and femal quick disconnect fitting(s) in line somewhere.

The reason that quick-disconnects could cause engine problems is that the small holes in the connector pin limits the amount of fuel flow. On a higher horsepower motor, the fuel restriction would be so great that the motor would be running lean at full speed, and you know what that means!

Sounds like you need a bigger tank. lol. but seriuosly how about put a t in the line with cut off valves on both ends . Then you could take the other tanks out if you don't need them. cutting off the valve to the small tank and taking off a hose clamp don't take that much time.
