Just bought a new 25 Maycraft PilotHouse with a 225 4 stroke. While the engine is idleing it is very quiet and smooth. Once you put it in gear you can feel a vibration in the boat. This is from about 700 to 1100 RPM, after that the vibration is not noticeable. Anyone else felt this in this engine, or is this just a normal feel to an outboard. The dealer claims it just needs to be broken in. It also grinds and then a noticeable bang when it goes in gear forward or reverse. This is my first outboard so I might just be more used to an I/O feel. Thanks. Todd

Hey Todd...

Your outboard cost more than my house! Wow...that really sounds like a nice set up. You sure we aren't some how related? Maybe you could invite me out some time bro!! Hee, hee.

Look, if it were me and I had any concerns whatsoever about the boat/engine...I'd be taking it back to the dealer and have it checked out. The dealer is right in one respect....your new engine does need to be broken in. But whether that relates to the problems (if there is in fact a real problem) you're describing is difficult to say. The grinding and banging into gear issue could possibly be serious. Talk to the dealer's mechanic and be very specific with what you're experiencing. I would arrange to have the mechanic go on a river/lake test with you so you can show him exactly what your concerns are.

Good luck!

Walt
