I researched buying a new boat and motor until I was gonna melt down. Finally I get the new rig, run the recommended break-in times and speeds and take the package on an extended fishing trip. The first trip away from the dock the Yamaha 115 4S cuts out at 4000rpm. As soon as it stops it immediately runs again, going from 4000 to 0, 0 to 4000, etc. It would continue to quit/start unless I throttled back to less than 4000 rpm. The it would run like a million bucks. After 4 days in the Northern Minnesota hinterlands, I dragged the beast back to the dealer on the way home. They claimed that the "Power Harness" was cracked; they replaced it and called it good. The first trip back on the water revealed that the problem appears to be solved. HOWEVER, now the speedometer isn't working. Where the heck is the pickup on this Yammie? Is it just below the cav plate on the starboard side? I found a hole there, but it doesn't appear plugged. Of course the dealer will be responsible for this, but I'd rather have my line in the water than in the garage. Any thoughts?

I'll reply to myself since nobody else gave it a shot. I found the Yammie's speedo sensor hole (about the diameter of a 6d nail) in the leading edge of the lower unit. It was plugged with aquatic vegitation. I vacuumed it out and then blew a little air in it to check for speedo movement- bingo! All set.
