there is a bushing assembly on the drive shaft(about half-way down) that has a plate attached called a bushing stop(part # 369-64332-0). This plate has corroded and fallen off....it was attached by 2 screws. How difficult would it be to loosen these screws as I would assume that they may also be pretty well corroded in.
Is this plate really necessary?...I guess it is used to keep the bushing from working loose from the assembley but the bushing should be already tightly pressed into the housing and would tend not to work it's way loose?.....any thoughts would be welcome....thanks

You did not note the actual model (year is irrelevant). The bushing assembly is not pressed. It is retained by the stainless stop plate and screws. On L and UL motors, the bushing keeps the shaft from whipping at high speeds.

thanks for the reply, pvanv, ...the model # is NSF6A2 (seriel # 3R4-1 02586)....I am surprised that the bushing is not pressed into the housing, otherwise, it would be possible for it to rotate along with the shaft......pvanv , are you still working @ obersheimers...I sent you an email but it was returned...thanks

The bushing is pressed (a little) into a casting... the whole thing is called the bushing assembly. That is retained by the stainless stopper plate and that is all held in the housing with 2 stainless screws. No, I'm not at Obersheimer's any more.

thanks for the reply pvanv.......those screws look like they would be really difficult to remove/loosen after so many yrs...do you have any advice on how one would loosen them if they are corroded in place....

I use a long #2 phillips driver. They and the plate are stainless, so they don't corrode on the Great Lakes...

thanks for the reply, pvanv....I am concerned that whatever went on to corrode the stop plate may also have created some corrosion(galvanic or otherwise) between the screws and and housing...also, they are in a very difficult location to get at......by the way, the stop plate looked like it was made out of aluminum...

Interesting. I haven't had one of those plates out in a while. Maybe it is aluminum. When the LU is down, a long screwdriver fits the screws well. Be sure to keep downward pressure on it so you don't mangle the phillips drive.

thanks for the reply, pvanv....yes , that is my concern that I would mangle the screws...some have suggested tapping the srewdriver with a hammer so that the impact may break any corrosion bond between the screw and the housing.....is obersheimersails still in business?...I tried to contact them by email to order some outbd motor parts and the email was returned....if they are still in operation, who would I contact there?.....thanks

Of course, when starting to work on those, you BASH the driver with a heavy hammer first, Std mechanic trick.
The company is still there in name. They are no longer Tohatsu Certified mechanics. I will leave it at that.
Joe, if you REALLY want me to look at it, I will open my garage to you. Any Time, as Friends and former business partners.
As for parts... there are other dealers in our area. I will leave it at that.
