2002 Mercury 90 horse 4 stroke smoking at start up?

I have a problem with my 2002 merc 4 stroke 90 horse.I purchased new.First year fine,last year would smoke on restart after running for 10 minutes or so.The initial start up at ramp will not produce smoke?Only when the motor is hot?I shut down to fish for 20 minutes or so and retart.The motor will blow blue smoke,large amount of carbon deposit on prop.<br />Had the dealer change the oil at required time.With only 2 hours running time with the new oil the oil seems to be black and thinner?Hope someone knows what is going on with this unit.Otherwise the power is fine and starts first turn of the key.<br /><br />Dealer says carbs are not burning all fuel and on start up and needs to adjust carbs.Could it be something this simple?Worried as only under warranty for 6 more months.Thanks for any help.

hello<br />next time you shut it down try trimming the engine up so the cylinders are tilted up. its common for oil to seep past the rings when tilted full down and cause a puff of smoke on startup.

Thanks for the suggestion,makes sense.Wonder why the first year or operation I had no problem?I have friend that owns the identical motor and never a problem with smoke?He does not raise the motor.<br /><br />Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the tip rod.Soon will take boat out of winter storage and have dealer try to fix the problem with the motor.I will mention your idea.Thanks once again.

ALL CARBS NEED TO BE AJUSTED CORRECTLY AND VACUME ON INTAKE BALANCED. SYC&LINC CRITICAL ON THROTTLE BODY FOUR STROKE. COULD CHECK TPI TO MAKE SURE VALUES ARE CORRECT..
