Over the weekend I run in my new outboard motor. However, when decelerating hard in gear there is a gear rattle noise evident.
Any ideas most welcome

Regards

JCW
Ribman,

I think you are hearing the prop over run the gears in the lower unit. When you coast down, the prop keeps spinning because of the water going past it. Does it do this if you pull back in nuetral?
No, it does not do it if you pull back to neutral. Is this normal or can damage be caused? Also I had 2001 model but carb version and I did not notice the same symtom.
Thanks for your reply.

Regards

JCW
I noticed the same thing when using my trolling motor on high. The prop spins from the water washing over it. You have the same thing happen when you let off the power. I agree....the prop over runs the gears.

Wily
