I have a 2002 Johnson 40hp 4 stroke mod j40pl4st ser s 17022041. Motor run at idle great but as soon as you give it gas it surges wildly (in and out gear). Compression is 1)155 2) 154 3) 156 .I brought it to my dealer and it looks to me like they want to though parts at it. They want to charge $2300 to hopefully fix it with no promises that it will be fixed:eek:. Any ideas. I got some testing equipment. Jest looking for insight and possibilities that my cause this problem. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Sorry Oldgradywhite, I can't help you with this, it's too new for me. However, 2300 for a "hopefull fix" would get anyones attention and I'm sure you'll get some advice here on this site.
