Hi all,

New to me '02. Just getting everything all tested and worked out before I put it on the boat. When I turn the key on it's a constant alarm beep. Does not go off no matter what. From my research on this model it's either high temp, or low oil pressure warning. Since it stays on no matter what, even before I've tried to start the engine I think I can rule out low oil pressure?

Disconnected both sensors, doesn't make a difference, alarm stays on. Checked for continuity on the oil pressure sensor wire, none, so I think it's not grounding out.

The black wire to the temp sensor is grounded, and the black and yellow is not, which I'm assuming is normal.

Does this equate to either a problem at the CDI, or at the remote?

Thank you!

Would really appreciate any help. I switched the remote control to a new one in case it was a fault in the harness running from the engine, or in the remote itself. Same thing. Constant alarm that will jot shut off from the moment the key is turned on.

I took the steps above looking for ground continuity from the oil pressure sensor, and water temp sensor. They do not seem to be grounded out.

I'm going to pull apart the wiring harness here to look for issues, because that's all I can think of. It also looks like someone's been in there before, so maybe that's a clue. Is there a way to test the CDI? At what point to I damn that thing?

Any advice?

Just gonna keep following up in case this helps someone else later on.

The pin on the CDI that feeds the pink wire to the alarm on the remote is grounded full time. Doesn't matter if the sensors are plugged in or not. So I'm now assuming defective CDI. Have a good used one on the way from eBay for $250. They're $700 new so ouch.

Fingers tightly crossed that solves it.

just installed the new good used CDI, no more alarm!

I also got the factory service manual and it is full of incredibly useful information and troubleshooting steps with every diagram you can imagine, and tests for all sensors including what steps to perform the tests in to narrow down a problem. This is obvious news to some, but a huge part of the value in owning the factory service manual is just reading through the pages and learning all kinds of things about the engine that would otherwise take a lot of research to figure out.

There is a section that deals with testing the sensors, and it gives ohm values for the different temperatures are that the temperature sensor reads, so you can ohm it out as you dip it in increasingly hot water to figure out if it’s reading temperature properly or not. There are also steps to test the oil pressure sensor as well. Since both of the sensors tested good on my engine, and the wiring all tested good, yet the pin feeding the alarm was full time grounded, it had to be the CDI.
