Hi

I am looking at a boat which looks extremely clean. The motor included. However, it has 500 hours of use. I think that is a lot but I don't know much about this engine. Does anyone know how many hours it should last? Thanks

500 hours at 55mph = 27,500 miles. Would you worry about buying a car with 27,500 miles on it?
That engine is the V-6 shall block Chevy and Volvo Penta is a good drive.

with proper maintenance, they will last about 3000-4000 hours.

Ayuh,.... My ole 4.3l has over 2,000 hours on it, 'n it's runnin' as strong as ever,....

99% of the time, boat motors are killed by their owners, 'n rarely wear out,.....

Perfect amount of hours. You don't want an engine that sits around and never gets used.

Ok thanks. All very good answers! Wow, 4,000 hours. ..that's a lot of time. Now I feel much more confident about buying a boat with 500 hours. I do know I still have to be careful though!
