I stumbled on this thread while doing some maintenance reading and research. I have a 2002 BF130 Serial # 1300914. I bought it with the boat in 2013 with 65 hours on it. The boat looks like it sat for years.. Couple I bought it from divorced and it wasn't used. We've put on about 300 hours in a combination of towing kids on tubes and skis and river and ocean fishing. I've used it in 75 degree lake water and 38 degree river water with no problems. Everything runs well. I use saltaway religiously after salt use although I typically rinse it from the rinse fitting in the back and think I need to run the engine with the muffs for 5-7 minutes to get the thermostat open and then rinse it that way. I'm curious..I don't know if my motor is in the risk category from developing a crack problem and if there are ways to prevent it from happening. I know I'm beyond warranty but would like to prevent this and don't want to be 15 miles off shore in the Pacific thinking I'm sitting on a ticking time bomb.

I have heard of the cracking issue, but the motor is considered a work horse by many. Heavy maybe, but durable. I'm no 130 expert by any means, but it would seem to me if it was going to crack, it would have by now. I'd just continue taking good care of it, and enjoy!

One thing I can share, is that storing the motor with it tilted, even slightly, can trap water in quite a few internal passages. For that reason, I consider it a really bad plan. Trapped sea water, even just "brackish" water, will often allow solids to settle out, preventing even a good flush from getting to all the places it needs to go until removed manually.
