The boat began to stall when in idle. Then it began to die after a few min. while in idle. I was told that i needed my upper part of carb cleaned. Instead i added fuel treatment and then it started again so i changed plugs but no luck. I cranked the boat up today and it would die after a min. Now it will not even start. It does turn over/crank but will not fire up. One very important thing to add is that my fuel flip up cap has been broken so i have caught it open a few times when i am pressure washing boat. Could I have gotten water in fuel? If so, what should i do?

use starting fluid, more is better, get it running. jam it right wide open until it blows.
buy another motor and do the same.
its all snake oil in a can.
dude are ya that nuts?
the motor was telling you its sick.
take it to the DR or it DIES a horribly expensive death.

No one even knows what motor you are talking about.
Check for water , if there is water in fuel then drain and clean tank, lines ,filters, fuel pumps, carbs ,or injector system

if you suspect water in the fuel then its imperative to clear the fuel system and restart the engine and run it at least 30 minutes to clear the water from the block.
and yes a model number would help us in pointing you the right direction of clearing the engine fuel system.

sorry about the lack of info. It is a 2001 yamaha 90hp outboard. i will go ahead and pull the gas tank out and clean. Will also change fuel filter and i just spoke to a guy i met on craigslist. He will pull carbs and soak for 125 bucks. Im hoping this will work. thanks for all the info. guys. ...really appreciate it. This website is awesome. the problem with clogged carbs on a two stroke is it makes cylinders run lean.
lean is the difference between welding and cutting with oxygen.
water will rust all the shiney steel and cast iron bearings and bearing journals, and can do it rapidly.

thanks for all your help guys. In orders to clear the fuel system , do i need any type of vaccum system? i see all the lines i need to disonnect, leading to the clear fuel filter can and the carbs. i shouldnt have no problem pulling out the gas tank and giving her a cleaning. really greatful for all your help everyone. Will give it a try and let you guys know how she runs if she even cranks up. fingers crossed.
