Hello, I'm a first time boat owner and I've had several problems with a 2001 Stingray that I bought two years ago. Today, the boat was running fine (we wakeboard/tube for 10-15 minutes and then will anchor for a couple hours to just relax) until we were about to take it out. I took some people back to the dock so they could go home and then ran around the water for a bit. On the way back I noticed the engine temp begin to rise to I shut it off quickly. I immediately took the engine cover off and checked the engine and noticed that water was running down the side of the engine. I've since hooked the boat up to ear muffs and ran it cold and water didn't come out the side of the engine so I'm hopeful that it's not the block. I'm not sure where to go next. Possible water pump issue? Possible freeze out plug problem? I'm not sure.

Any help would be appreciated. I've been around boats since I was a kid, but never worked on them.

water leaking from a motor will leak in the water or on a hose so another trip with a watcher would be next to help find the leak

Which side of the engine? Near the top, near the bottom? Towards the front, or towards the back?

Got any pics of the engine and maybe mark it up to show us where the water was coming from?

what happens to the temperature? Does the engine overheat at some point?

I don't have any pics right now. Luckily, it looks like just an external leak in the block so I'm going to try the JB Weld fix for it. Should be working on it tonight so if I get a chance I'll take a pic and post it.

External leak in the block, as in a crack in the block?

From freeze damage?

There may be more to it than merely what you can see.
