Ive got a 2001 mercury 90elpto. Little History on the motor. My grandfather purchased it brand new in 2001, put it on a boat, turns out that boat had some hull issues and the motor was on the water for one hour... So in the last 11 years its been run for 1 hour and that was 4 days after it was purchased, its been garaged ever since never started. Couple weeks ago we took it off and put it on a different boat. Fired right up with a new fuel line but ran kinda iffy wouldnt idle sometimes, would flood, then would run great for a few minutes. So i figured since there was gas and oil in the carbs for 11 years they probrably needed rebuilt. Took them off rebuilt them, put new reeds, gaskets, all new carb internals. Put them back on and same thing. It fires up for about 10 seconds idles really rough and then dies. Its got a brand new interstate marine battery, new fuel line new fuel filters brand new plastic gas tank. fuel pump seems to be working, it has spark to all three cylinders, and the compression is perfect on all three cyl's.

Where should i look i cannot figure out whats going on. Keep in mind this motor is 11 years old but has been sitting for 11 year. It looks lik ebrand new but clearly something isnt right.

You put the engine on a "different boat". Did that boat have fresh gas in it? Fuel issues are generally "lack of it" rather than "too much of it" so start the engine and squeeze the primer bulb to see if that helps keep it running.

In my post it says new plastic tank new primer bulb... Pumping primer bulb makes no changes in the problem
