I Am looking at a '01 Starcraft with a Merc 60 hp 2 stroke. I know absolutey nothing about Mercury engines, always have had Johny/rudes. Can anyone tell anything about this motor-- good or bad; anything to watch out for? Is there much of a diffrence between the 40, 50, and 60 hp versions of this engine? Thanks, I Appreciate any information.

Great engine, thoses triple are very easy to maintain. The 40, 50 and 60 share the same block.

Thanks for the info Saumon, hopefully I have nothing to worry about. I'm always a little uneasy about buying something I know nothing about, sort of like the Chevy guy buying his first Ford. ;-)

Like any engine, they are reliables if well maintained. The biggest problem you could run into with a used one is scored cylinders, wich can be caused by overheating (bad impeller) or running lean (dirty cards). But it will appear on a compression test. Look for 110, 115 or 120 but, more importantly, all three almost identical.
