2001 Mercury 25hp 2 stoke lower unit removal

I broke the shift shaft retaining clip when removing it and can not for the life of me find a part number for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Upon reassembly do I just put the little washer on top of the shift shaft and reassemble into the upper housing?

The motor is a 2001 Mercury 25 hp 2 stroke

Well I finally figured it out. The parts diagram I found refers to it as a "lever, backplate", part no 823862, and the repair manual refers to it as a "Retainer clip". No wonder I'm always confused.

I have a 2005 25EL and am having trouble with disconnecting the shift rod for lower unit removal.
What is the trick to it???
