2001 mercury 150HP not able to get above 2800 rpm

2001 mercury 150HP not able to get above 2800 rpm it is now starting sporadically. It seems like I've seen a lot of threads about this but I haven't seen very many answers?

You might post this in the Mercury Outboard forum.

Mercury OBs have a high speed and low speed windings on the stator. The stator is responsible for producing spark. Perhaps your is going bad?

Just had to stators and alters regulators replaced with factory parts.
