2001 Mercury 150 trim and tilt problem please help

2001 Mercury 150 Salt Water Series

Never had any problems with the trim and tilt. No rust on the cylinders and the pump motor sounds strong. No rust on the motor at all.

The story.

Trim and Tilt worked fine in the driveway before driving the boat to the boat ramp.

I put the boat in the water and began to lower the motor and the motor stopped moving about 3/4 of the way down.... it would not move up or down at all after this point.

I later got home and loosed the plastic bolt on the starboard side of the trim system, and I was able to raise the motor by hand and and lower it by hand.

I checked the plastic fill bolt on port side of the trim system and fluid ran out of the system and I assume the system should be full if fluid is running out. I tighted both of the bolts and nothing works at all.

I am now lost what should I do next? I have never heard of a motor this new having problems with the trim/tilt system.

Is the T and T motor making any noise at all when you try to raise or lower the unit? Could be the relays are bad or the motor itself may be bad. Have you tried both the switch on the control lever and the engine mounted tilt switch?

the motor makes noise when the trim switch on the motor is used. I had issues with the control level previously but the motor would always go up via the control lever but it would not go down using that lever.

I never had any issues with the switch on the motor. The switch on the motor has always worked.

Don't the trim motors fail over a period of time not just all at once.

Is there a way to test the trim motor?

Is it hard to replace the trim motor?

what fuses?

the pump motor sounds like it is trying to move. Are there fuses that I should check if the motor is trying to turn.

u need to check fluid level first
