Motor starts and operates normally up to 3/4 position. when I apply more pressure the metal bar (connecting the plastic accelerator pump cam to the control lever) pops out and must be reset. I suspect the shift and cables are ok since they appear to transfer the pressure to the plastic cam.
I have pics and cut sheets from the service manual describing the problem
Please reply with suggestions
Thx

Upon further review, I disconnected the above bar and verified that the throttle and control arm freely move to the maximum throttle set screw position (with bar removed). Therefore I isolated the stuck problem to the plastic cam where it contacts the oil pump button. At low speed the throttle causes the cam to depress the button just slightly, as it should. As the control arm advances and the cam rotates it depresses the button further, until the 3/4 point where the button is fully depressed, the cam binds on the oil pump housing, which prevents the cam from fully rotating to the max throttle set screw position.
As a check, I also rotated the cam against the smaller cam that actuates the rods that open the 4 throttles, they move freely to the fully open position.
I tightened and loosened several nuts (in the region) without improvements
If I tighten the cam too much it makes the problem worse.
Is this common?
I am considering sanding down the cam until it moves to the full throttle position
Is this a bad idea?
