Hello All,
I have a 2001 Mercury 25 H.P. 2-stroke 2 cyl tiller with manual start and manual trim. I changed the impellar last year due to age. She ran great all season, then put it away. Started it this year and found no water from tell-tale. Found the impellar had exploded. I removed all the rubber peices and installed a new impellar kit, untilizing the old impellar housing as it had no damage. Now with the unit installed properly (i've checked about 20 times) i have no water coming from p-hole. I know the thermostat is working because it is new, and when the engine gets warm i cansee smoke/steam coming out of the p-hole and can feel air, but NO WATER! My only thought right now is that the impellar housing is not sealing properly to the impeller plate. the o-ring does not seem to seat (it's new). The housing appears to sit more flush on one side then the other when installed. Anyone have any ideas why i have no water. I've tried it in a barrel and with muffs...NOTHING! getting frustarted thanx to anyone who can shed some light:facepalm::confused:

Sounds like you have to work on that impeller housing....something ain't right. The housing may be damaged if it isn't seating right, and may not be easy to tell from visual inspection??

If you think that the impeller is doing it's job just fine, try pulling the thermostat. Maybe it's stuck or clogged with gunk?? You have put a piece of wire up the tell tale to make sure it's not clogged, right?

yea i already ran wire through. i also blew air in the p-hole and verified not clogged. i also check for any clogs on the impellar housing, copper tube off of that. no blocks, comes clean thorugh. The thermostat was check for blockage twice and i also did a boiling water test with thermo to verify proper 120 opening. Is there any way i can connect a water hose to the water hole int he shaft where the copper tube inserts from the impellar housing. i want to try and push the water through that way and see if i get anything out the hole. at lest this way i can tell if my problem is above or below the impeller

Hmmm, there has to be a way, but not sure how....home depot, some fittings and different sized hoses held on w/ hose clamps I would guess. Maybe just use the garden hose and spray water up from just past the impeller....that should get you some water.

Did you remember to get the keyway thing in there aligned with the impeller?? If you had a real big drill chuck you could chuck the driveshaft into a drill, put lower unit in bucket and see if impellar was pumping. I would guess you're having issues at the impeller, but just a guess.

Thanx. I did verify the impeller key was in the proper position. I think i am going to try and see if i can get the lower unit submerged with a drill oike you mentioned. I need to determine where the issue is. Wether its in the water pump/lower unit or upstream in the block. I'll let yea know how i make out:)
