Hey folks, looking for some advice here. I've found a nice little flats boat that I'm thinking about purchasing that's equipped with a 2001 90hp Mariner. I work in fisheries but don't know too much about engines themselves. I've been asking around at work and some people have told me to go for it, others have told me that they wouldn't trust a Mariner. Just wondering what the consensus is about general durability and reliability of these engines over time as well as a few things to look for when I go to look at the boat. I'll obviously look at the compression on the cylinders, have him run it in idle, etc. but if there are any other tips or tricks you'd recommend I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Good stout engine if like the '02 90 Merc I had and there isn't any reason it isn't. May even be a better engine basically.
