Just bought a boat and was fine during the sea trial, started it in the driveway and the alarm sounded with the check engine light after about 1 min of running. the alarm stopped after about 15 seconds but the light stayed on. Had a Marina look at it and they couldn't make it do it again. Took the boat out (3-4 hours) no problems started it in the driveway yesterday and it happened again???? I've started it in the driveway 6-7 times with this happening twice now.

I know it has the System Check has a tach with red 4 red lights, over heat, no oil, low oil, and check engine.

Please any ideas would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance

Check engine lite on that mtr usually indicates a fuel restriction at high rpm. I do know that OMC had probs with those gauges for lites coming on when there was no prob in the mtr.

Not sure if it's the same EMM as my Evinrude Fitch, but with mine, any time the CE light comes on, a code is stored in the EMM. You can get the code without connecting a computer, but having the software, cable and a PC to connect to it makes troubleshooting a lot easier. At least you get pointed in some direction. There's a procedure to get the code by disconnecting the throttle link, getting the throttle position sensor to WOT and powering up the unit (key in on, not start, position). The code(s) will flash on the CE light after about 10 seconds. The EMM must be powered off with no DC for a few minutes prior to doing this (disconnect the battery).
So:
1) Disconnect the battery for a few minutes
2) Disconnect the throttle link and set the TP sensor to WOT (hold with rubber band or helper).
3) Reconnect the battery
4) Set key to on position (not to start)
5) Codes will start to flash on CE light after about 10 sec.
