I have a 2001 johnson 70/40 jet motor on my river boat and last time had it out after using the high idle lever, it felt extremely loose and wobly and then it would not let me shift out of neutral once i returned the lever to the down position. After getting back home to a garage i continued to mess with it wiggling cables thinking maybe a cable was stuck or crimped or somthing and was able to get it to shift again. But, then upon trying to start it i noticed a large amount of what looked to be mainly oil or partially mixed with gas coming out of the exhaust hole in the jet foot. Any ideas of my problem? I am hoping i can tear down the control box and just tighten a few screws to fix the lever but the large amounts of oil/fuel coming out of the exhaust has me wondering. Does the high idle not fully disengauging have anything to do with how much fuel and oil is getting pumped in? It has a seperate oil tank and gas tank and then the motor has a pump on it that draws the oil in to mix. Any ideas or potential fixes would be appreciated. Thanks
