Hey 2600.....By 2001 they were good motors, BRP was making them in 2001, the last OMC built Ficts were in 2000, I believe. I have a 2000 150hp and it has been flawless, basic maintenance and has never given me any problems. The biggest problems were the early years, 97-99, but by the 2000 they were pretty much worked out. Only update I needed was the injector brackets, just a stronger bracket on the back of the injectors, and that was done by a dealer for free when the update came out. I would still recommend getting them checked out by a knowledgeable mechanic, who can read the EMM and tell you some history on it, ie. if it's been overheated at all in it's life, and the actual hours on the engine from the EMM. Also ask when the last time the water pump has been done, could be an original 2001, in which case I'd recommend changing it and the t-stats. Good luck.
