Running this 50 on a 28ft Pontoon. We often putt about at 3000 RPM then after increasing to about 3800 RPM for a minute or so I get warning tone and the "hot" light comes on. Put it in neutral, teltale pouring fine and after about 30 seconds back to normal. Never does it at high speeds or below 3000. Any ideas ??

The telltale on that engine only tells about input water pressure, S2000. It will make a stream even with a failing impeller.

When was the impeller last changed?

It's the original impeller, fifth year. Iguess it's about time for a change but wouldn't I see more overheat conditions when running at high speeds ?

The 4 stroke 50 has a pressure relief valve in the mid-section that can get plugged with weeds, sand, debris, etc. Have your dealer check it out and at the same time make sure the thermostat and housing does not have debris in it.

Five years!

There is a fair chance that your impeller is disintegrating and has partly blocked the pressure relief valve with debris.

Impellers on Suzuki-built 4 strokes should be replaced annually and never less often than each 2 years.

Good luck. :)
