I am very interested in a boat with the above engine. All I know is that it has 230 hours, the computer and oil pump have been replaced and the seller has been happy with the performance. The boat was bought in February of 2002 so I will assume it is a late 2001 engine.

If this engine is still going after 7 years is it a "good" ficht? If the computer was replaced how would he know the hours? Am I asking for trouble here?

My current boat has a 1998 150 Johnson Ocean Pro carbed. Those dang things just crank and go in a cloud of dust/oil/unburned gas but they always go and come back home (provided you do not run out of gas.)

I also have a johnson 150, when and if I ever modernize it will be to an Etec, I'll skip the Fitcht step.

If a Fitcht came my way cheap in a package deal then I'd run it.

Parts for our J150's are also relatively cheaper and ez to come by.

if it comes down to $ maybe the ficht is the way to go. my dad bought a 1999 when i told him not to.but he has had very good luck with it.as far is knowing the hours goes when the emm was replaced the engine hours were downloaded from old emm to new.i would have a compression test done and the gear case checked.and have brp service center run the serial # to make sure all service updates have been done. if some of them were not done then walk away as it will be imposable to get them done now.

and just why exactly would it be impossible to get any updates done now?
