hello,

i have a 2001 Evinrude 115 Ficht outboard and having problems w/ the fuel injection.

engine will turn if i hand feed the bulb, once i burn the fuel in the bulb, the engine will shut off <it's dry>

i seems as though fuel does not make it from the tank to the bulb. however, IF i hand pumb the bulb, the fuel will flow only to fill the bulb but then burn the fuel never getting a constant feed.

trouble shooting.
1. i checked all lines from tank to the engine, all appear air tight and hose clamps nice and snug.
2. replaced the bulb
3. located the valve on the engine. when i removed it, there is a "ball/spring" in this valve. the ball appeared to be stuck in 1 position. i knocked it out of that position, WD40'd the spring and reinstalled. after the test run, the fuel would still not feed. i then pulled the valve off again only to find the ball not stuck, but in working order (post my lube job)
4. could this be a problem w/ the fuel pump and if so, what are some tips to troubleshoot a bad pump?
5. is it possible that the valve from the tank, that the fuel connector screws into contains a bad filter, or maybe "clogged" -remember, the fuel feeds fine if i hand pump it.

looking for suggestions.

thanks.

I would say first thing to do is get another remote tank complete with hose and primer and make sure the problem is not there first, as it is the easiest thing to try, they also have a filter on the engine that needs to be replaced regularly, has this ever been done?

Remove the air box, the filter is then accessable.

Yep, what seahorse said, not too sure if it is the problem, but it should be replaced as part of a regular service

you should be able to hear the fuel pump run
a few seconds whenever key is turned on or motor cranked
but your problem sounds like a boat side of fuel rather than a motor side

Re: 2001 Evinrude 115 Ficht fuel problem

UPDATED 04/12
we replaced the bard/fuel connector w/ a new "open" connector
i connected a temp fuel tank and temp line to the engine in attemps to "troubleshoot" the onboard tank. still the engine shut off a few min. running wide open. it appears as though the primer bulb went soft again!

we suspected air was getting into the fuel line so we replaced the entire fuel line. i spent 43 bucks on a good 3/8 inch line and we properly installed the fuel feed from the tank to the engine. we then replaced the fuel filter, tested on open water.

the engine ran smooth but again at full throttle, the bulb became soft and the engine shut off. wtf!?

this is a great motor minus the fuel issue. please shed some light as we are at wits end.

facts:
2001 Evinrude 115 Ficht (MINT condition, we think it has less then 10hrs) this engine is spotless, boat package bought in 2004 / 2004 seafox cc 197

the engine cranks up everytime (after we prime the bulb)
the engine runs NICE at idle speed, quiet and all so smooth, but once we run it wide open it seems to "run out of fuel"

please help me figure this out.

looking for suggestions.

thanks.
discouraged newbie boater guy
