The engine will start fine but fails to idle properly. It will accelerate to 10.4 mph and be at the end of power and throttle control range. The lower unit is fine but the fuel bulb is weak after running and it uses a lot of oil. Plugs were replaced. Any ideas?

When were the carbs last cleaned?

How old are the fuel lines?

Has the linkage to the oil control been disconnected then reconnected? The valve has a spring that opens it to wide open, if the valve is not turned back 180 the linkage will be backwards, leaving the oil near wide open at idle and turning down with throttle, causing excessive oil use and reduced low throttle performance.

Check fuel flow, disconnect the fuel line to the carbs, crank the motor and watch for a strong pulsed fuel stream, a weak pump, restricted fittings, old hose, any can limit upper RPM and power.

Thanks, will try. The linkage hasn't been touched, so I will start with the fuel system. The fuel lines are 12 years old.
