Hi Guys,
I want to know if i did something to my motor, of if it will be fine. Was supposed to go out last Monday, but it was 50 degrees outside. I went through my normal steps, putting the motor on the muffs, starting it up to see if it works, and it did. It looked like more smoke then normal (usually run it in the 70 degree outside temp range), so i shut it down. I had extra plugs, so I set the gap and installed them. Started up, idled for about 3 minutes, but same amount of smoke. So we decided to go to the bar instead. Didn't touch anything until Thursday, put the cover back on and lowered the motor a little bit. Then Friday morning, i saw oil about 5 drops of oil/gas on the ground. Looked at the motor Saturday, removed the plastic shroud in front of the carbs and notice about a tablespoon of oil/gas mixture in there. Looking around more, I noticed that when I changed the plugs, i must not of put the wires on tight. As they were loose on the end of the plug. So i pushed them on so they are snug and tight. So now my question. If a plug or plugs did not have any spark, or week spark, would it start and idle? Also would it dump out the unburned gas/oil mix out the carbs? I have not started it, but wondering if something is wrong, well beside that I am an idiot. Thanks.

If a plug wire was loose and causing a spark plug not to fire, the motor could still start ok and idle. If you ran it under power in that condition, you probably would have noticed a miss in the motor. The oil dripping out with the gas in most likely the unburned oil and gas mixture that is coming from your exhaust which is normal on a two cycle motor. The piston that was not firing or not firing properly would have been flooded out with the mixture and could have began to flood out the carb too.

The plug was probably firing doesn't take much at an idle to fire the plug. As for gas in the airbox that is normal usually a hose attached to drain that away depends on the design. You will have more smoke when its colder like starting your car as it gets colder more smoke was it white.

Well, I don't remember if i used the boat before storing it. But i got it out of storage, and had it running on the muffs again to clean out the fogging oil. I think it was idling fine, but seemed to blow a lot of smoke. Had it running for 10 minutes or so. Then the next day, it was leaking again. I am going to replace the new plugs that i put in last fall. I am wondering if a bad plug or 2 could cause it to appear to idle fine, but then drip gas/oil out the exhaust a few hours after running? I am using Merc 2 stroke oil in the tank on the motor. Any other thoughts? Will it hurt the motor if after changing the plugs, and it continues to leak? I looks like about a few tablespoons drip after sitting;

Also this is a new issue after changing the plugs last fall.
