2001 - 26"Striper w/Volvo Penta 5.7Gi - Engin Cutting Out - Please Help

Hi,

My name is Derek. I own a 2001 - 26"Striper w/Volvo Penta 5.7Gi. I am running into a problem which I can't fix. The engine runs great. Starts-up right away, runs great at idol speed. However, as I engage the throttle above idol speed, the motor starts to cut out and sputter. I've replaced my fuel filter and have new gas.

When was the last time it had a full tuneup and compression check? When you replaced the fuel filter, was their any water in the old one? I you didn't check, you missed a major troubleshooting item.

What is the full model number or serial number for your engine? Year doesn't mean anything in boats.

Yes, I've had a tune-up about a year ago. I've taken the boat out twice since then. First time, (right after tune-up) the boat ran great. The second, I ran into this issue.

The strange thing is on my last trip, the boat started fine. I idled out the harbor and then hit the throttle, the boat started to choke and then cut out. I then restarted; everything was ok, then hit the throttle and the boat instantly jumped up to 24 knots and was running fine. I decided to run it for a while (15+ miles), then back to idol speed. I then tried to increase the throttle and once again...choking and sputtering. I could get it up to 6 knots without cutting out, but anything above that...issue arises.

I was unable to get the serial number...boat in storage.
