I just got done bonding with My outboard mechanic. The problem was in the lower case. 2001 200 hp MERC. The parts are called shifting rod & follower. The rod fits inside the clutch assy and moves it from forward/Net/reverse. They are the last parts on the end of the shifting linkage. The rod is only about 3/16 " thick, and is called on to do a very stressful job of moving that clutch mec. in and out of gear. <br />What happened was while at the dock I loaded the boat wrong on the trailer and tried to power off and re hit it at a more straight angle, well I must have inadvertently shifted to soon before the RPMs settled down to the recommended idle speed of 650 rpms, and these two independent parts,( the rod actually spins inside the end of the follower at the speed of the prop), spun welded themselves together and for an instant became one and at that point snapped leaving me with no forward gear. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?<br />I will be shifting a lot more gently from now on.<br />Hope fully I may save some one else from this problem.<br />" Pinch-Me "
