I done allot of research on this and other boards recently and found others with similar problems and considered what they've listed as possible fixes. I've tried most of the "fixes" with no luck yet.

The Problem: port engine starts up and runs fine at idle - advance throttle up to 1500 - no problem - anything past 1500rpm's, the engine starts to rapidly fluctuate (every 2-3 seconds) between 1200rpms and whatever the throttle is advanced. If I shut down the engine, let it sit for a few seconds and fire it back up, I can push her back on plane (over 2200rpms) for appx 30-45 seconds and BAM - back to rapid fluctuations..

Whatever the problem is - is a result from letting her sit for 6 months with ZERO preservative work done prior. She ran fine prior..

I've changed the plugs, filters and cleaned the O2 sensors. I've treated the fuel and replaced the F/W separators. Still the same problem.

This issues is isolated to the port motor - the starboard still operates normally - so I'm thinking is something internal to the engine itself. I haven't touch the VST tank (scared to - not sure what’s going to pop out of there) But I did unscrew the VST's drain plug and maybe 4-6oz of fuel dribbled out - this was after letting the engine sit for a day.. Primer ball stays somewhat hard but if I press during operation, it has no effect on symptoms.

Getting to my last wits.. Any suggestions?? how easy is it to get into the VST unit.

Thanks in advance..

most likly the VST filter is clogged or the fuel pressure regulator filter is clogged, or possibly the injector filters are clogged.
all are quick easy fixes and you can do it before or after you blow a piston.
you will need the service manual the tech bullitens and a fuel pressure test guage.
dont continure playing with it cause if its not getting fuel its not lubricating either.

My Yami mechanic came over and pulled apart the VST. He jumped back and said he's never seen one this bad..
He suggested I install some Racor pre-filters and flush the entire fuel system and oil tanks as well.. (note the pic of him draining the oil into the bottle - apparently that white milky stuff isn't supposed to be there.. THIS SUCKS!!

Hope these pics encourage other readers to do your preventative maintenance... Otherwise.. well, I’m glad we re-fi'ed the house last year...

yep its all part of the 100 hour OR 6 month check or the 200 OR annual check, BTW that rusty pump is only 600 dollars or so. keep it wet and you can post us the actual cost, that and all that water is rusting the internal bearings as well.
but see those hose clamps? thems a strict no no and your supposed to use the band type clamps.
carefully inspect the white clip on the oil pump link rod for cracks.
